Olympic Speed Skating Coach
In this interview, Yan discusses retiring from speed skating after 14 years, and the passion she felt after returning to speed skating as a coach.
Li Yan is a Silver medal winning Olympic speed skater and coach of the Chinese Short track speed skating team. Yan grew up in Heilongjiang, and first learned to skate in elementary school. She was soon recruited to a private sports training school in Jiamusi, a move that would ultimately take her to the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. She went on to coach Apolo Ohno and the US speed skating team at the Torino Olympics.
Yan is married to former skier Tang Guoliang and has one daughter; she continues to coach the Chinese team in preparation for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Games.
