Gong Li is a Chinese actor from Shandong, China. Li has been credited with bringing Chinese cinema to European and American audiences,, and has received numerous international accolades for her work, including awards from the Berlinale Camera, Cannes Film Festival, and New York Film Critics Circle. In 2000, Li was named a UNESCO Artist for Peace, the first Chinese actor to be awarded as such. Li continues to represent China on and off screen, from her role as 2014 Jury President of the Shanghai International Film Festival, to consulting work for the Chinese government.
